Campus Community Gathers to Give Thanks

Aiken, SC (11/18/2020) — The week before Thanksgiving, the University of South Carolina Aiken held its 8th annual One Table event on campus.

Students, faculty, and staff gathered together for a traditional Thanksgiving meal before students head home for the remainder of the semester.

In May, the university announced its plans to conduct remote instruction after the Thanksgiving break. Lacie Wehrmann, assistant director of student life, believes this year's One Table was a way to bring the campus community together before the holiday break.

"This is so important this year since after this week, students will go home for the remainder of the semester and not return until January. It's such an intentional way to cap off the semester and simply take a breath."

For the fourth year in a row, those attending the event brought backpacks, school supplies, and non-perishable food, to be donated to students at Warrenville Elementary School.

"One Table is an incredible partnership between Student Life and Aramark Food Service to bring an opportunity of "gathering" to the UofSC Aiken community before the extended holiday break. It brings students, faculty, and staff together to share in a meal and just take a moment to give thanks," says Wehrmann.
