Hospital Auxiliary of Aiken County - Loyal Donor to USCA's Nursing Program

Aiken, SC (05/24/2022) — The Hospital Auxiliary of Aiken County has been donating to the USC Aiken School of Nursing Program for years. At their annual meeting last month, guest speakers Jim O'Laughlin, CEO and president of Aiken Regional Medical Centers and Dr. Thayer McGahee, dean of the USC Aiken School of Nursing, presented national trends for nursing shortages and the critical role they play in hospitals. The Hospital Auxiliary of Aiken County presented USCA with a $10,000 check for the continued support of USC Aiken students. In addition, they gave another $2,000 for gap scholarships for nurses who experience a particular hardship during the trajectory to finishing their degree.

"The Hospital Auxiliary of Aiken County is pleased to continue our annual support of nursing scholarships at USCA. The need for nurses is great and we feel fortunate to be able to contribute to the education of new nurses. In addition, we announced that our annual scholarships have been increased to $12,000." Allen Radcliffe, President, Hospital Auxiliary of Aiken County.

Dean McGahee shared that USC Aiken remains one of the Top 10 Nursing Schools in the state of South Carolina, and the university also holds the award of being a 2021-22 College of Distinction for Nursing. "We receive calls every year about nurses who will be finishing their USC Aiken nursing degree because hospitals and health facilities know the quality of our nurses. They receive firsthand care and simulated lab experiences that keep them in high demand. Our NCLEX rates are higher than both the state and national averages. USCA nurses averaged 92% on the NCLEX, while the state average was 89% and the national average was 82% (2021 NCLEX). I cannot thank Allen Radcliffe and the Hospital Auxiliary of Aiken County enough for their continued generosity in providing the next generation of nurses this loyal support!"

USC Aiken offers a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN), both a traditional track and an RN/BSN completion track. For more information about USCA's School of Nursing, please visit www.usca.edu/nursing.
