Pacers Showcase Their Research

Aiken, SC (04/10/2019) — The University of South Carolina Aiken Center for Research Excellence presents the 12th annual Scholar Showcase, Thursday and Friday, April 11-12. Oral sessions will take place in the USC Aiken Conference Center, located in the Business and Education Building (B&E) , Rooms 116, 122, and 124. Poster Sessions will take place in the B&E Gym.

The event is free and open to the public.

Scholar Showcase begins with a biology oral session on Thursday afternoon, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Events on Friday, April 12, include three concurrent oral sessions beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing until 1:15 p.m.

Afternoon poster sessions on Friday will take place from 2 - 4:15 p.m. Oral sessions will take place in the USC Aiken Conference Center, located in the Business and Education Building (B&E) , Rooms 116, 122, and 124. Poster Sessions will take place in the B&E Gym. Dr. Sandra Jordan, USC Aiken chancellor, will speak Friday, April 12, at 3 p.m., in the B&E Gym.

Scholar Showcase gives students from all disciplines a chance to present their scholarly work. USC Aiken undergraduates work closely with their faculty mentors on myriad research efforts, including work related to healthcare, cancer, genetics, HIV/AIDS, literary explorations the social sciences, and the visual and performing arts, among others.

This year's event begins with an oral session on molecular biology and biomedicine, April 11, at 2:30 p.m., in B&E 124. This kick-off event is sponsored by the USC Aiken Passport to Research Opportunities in Biomedicine (PROBe) program, which is supported by SC INBRE (Idea Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence) through a grant from the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

Scholar Showcase 2019 continues all day April 12, with both oral and poster sessions. Friday's event will include concurrent morning and afternoon oral sessions and an afternoon poster session. In addition to more traditional oral or poster presentations, creative projects will be showcased through visual art displays, theatrical or musical performances, or readings.
