Ruth Joins USC Aiken as Alumni Director

Alumna returns to serve

Aiken, SC (06/17/2022) — In April, the university appointed Tammy Davis Ruth as the thirteenth director of alumni relations. She will be working to engage over twenty thousand alumni worldwide.

Ruth is no stranger to the university. She is a proud Pacer alumna, graduating from the university in May 2004 with a B.A. in Communication. Since graduating, she has remained an active alumni and donor, serving on various career service panels, hosting internships for current students, being a program presenter for multiple programs and university events, and serving on the alumni association's executive board for several years. Ruth believes that the key to a university's ability to engage alumni is the student experience. As a student leader, she participated in housing and residential life as a resident assistant, Greek life as President of her sorority Delta Sigma Theta and member of the Greek council, a student ambassador and news editor for the Pacer Times. Her affinity for the university is related to her experience as a student. She was a highly engaged student and continued that engagement as an alum.

Ruth brings a wealth of experience in public service and volunteer engagement to the position. She has a Master of Public Administration from Pace University, New York, NY. She comes to higher education with more than 17 years of experience in nonprofit management. She played a role in helping to develop and strengthen various community partnerships to positively impact the lives of those in need in Aiken County. She credits USC Aiken with introducing her to the Aiken community and the discovery of her love for nonprofit missions. She discovered Aiken's nonprofit community after serving as a senior intern for Helping Hands Inc, a local children's home for abused and neglected children. She worked to rally support for the organization for 7.5 years in various capacities as a Community Outreach Coordinator, Development Manager, and Quality Assurance Coordinator.

In 2013 she was named the Community Investment Director for the United Way of Aiken County. She worked to engage hundreds of volunteers and community partners annually to improve the quality of life of Aiken County residents through United Way's community investment program, Project VISION.

Ruth is looking forward to the opportunity to engage one of the university's most vital resources, its alumni. A native of Hampton, SC, she now resides in Augusta, Georgia, with her husband, Anthony.
