Science Ed Center to Host Lunar Eclipse Viewing Event

Aiken, SC (01/16/2019) — The DuPont Planetarium at the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center on the campus of the University of South Carolina Aiken will host a free lunar eclipse viewing on Jan. 20.

The Super Blood Wolf Moon will be visible that evening. The eclipse is expected to begin around 9:30 p.m.; a partial eclipse will take place at approximately 10:30 p.m. The full eclipse begins at 11:40 p.m. The maximum effect will be visible around 12:12 a.m. Totality will last approximately one hour.

Anyone who can see the moon that evening can view the eclipse. No special glasses or equipment is required during a lunar eclipse. DuPont Planetarium telescopes will be available to facilitate viewing, but they are not necessary.

The next total lunar eclipse viewable in the local area will take place in 2021. Until then, partial eclipses will be visible.
