USC Aiken Offers Professional Development Classes

Aiken, SC (09/16/2019) — The University of South Carolina Aiken's Office of Continuing Education offers several professional development programs this fall. Area professionals in all industries are encouraged to enroll.

"If you have you been looking for a way to advance in your career, consider these courses," said Karen Edgington, director of the External Programs, Continuing Education, and Conferences department.

This fall, three courses will be offered: Project Management Prep, Safety Management Certification Program, and the Customer Service Matters Workshop session I & II.

Project Management Prep is one of the most popular classes, according to Edgington. The course covers foundational, process, integration, scope, time, and quality management as well as other topics. This course is offered Oct. 4, 11, 18, and 25, from 8 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. The course cost of $795 includes all course materials.

"This course gives you all the tools you need to pass the Project Management Exam," Edgington said.

The office of Continuing Education at USC Aiken is also offering a Safety Management Certification Program in partnership with the American Society of Safety Professionals. The certificate coursework spans a wide variety of topics, including leadership skills, ethics, developing budgets, controlling workers' compensation costs, and designing and adjusting safety systems and programs to meet the needs of employees and businesses.

The requirements for completing the Safety Management Certification Program include three mandatory classes -- Safety Management I & II and Corporate Safety Management -- and 14 hours of electives. Safety Management I will be held Oct. 21-24, from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The course cost of $890 includes all course materials.

The Customer Service Matters workshop will cover the principles of customer service for frontline employees, those who work directly with clients and customers. Key topics for this course are first and last impressions, verbal and nonverbal messaging, establishing rapport, etiquette for all forms of contact, and other important aspects of customer service.

The first session of the Customer Service Matters Workshop will be Oct. 10 and 17, from 6 - 9 p.m. The second session will be Oct. 22 and 29, from 1 - 4 p.m. The cost for this course is $99 and includes all course materials.

"We look forward to offering our community other classes as well. Soon, we will schedule a Human Resources program, a Dealing with Conflict seminar, Spanish, and Photography," said Joel Aitchison, Coordinator of Continuing Education.
