USC Aiken Parade of Flags to Kick Off Latin Heritage Month

Aiken, SC (09/10/2018) — The University of South Carolina Aiken Office of Student Life-Diversity Initiatives kicks off Latin Heritage Month with a Parade of Flags on Sept. 14, from 1:30 - 2:00 p.m., at the University Student Activities Center Patio and Quad. The event is free and open to the public.

The parade will feature flags representing Hispanic and Latin countries as well as the Brazilian flag. Students, faculty and staff will serve as representatives of each country, carrying its flag around the Quad, in the heart of campus.

"The parade of flags is an opportunity for Latin(x) American students and international students of Latin(x) identity to come together and feel a sense of pride and appreciation for their culture," said Amethyst Marroquin, the Latin(x) Heritage Month Steering Committee co-chair and Student Life Office of Diversity Initiatives student coordinator.
