USC Aiken Recognized as Tree Campus by the Arbor Day Foundation

Aiken, SC (02/14/2022) — The Arbor Day Foundation recently distinguished the University of South Carolina Aiken (USC Aiken) with 2021 Tree Campus Higher Education recognition. Tree Campus Higher Education honors colleges, universities, and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.

To obtain this distinction, the campus met the five core standards for sustainable campus forestry required by Tree Campus Higher Education, including the establishment of a tree advisory committee, evidence of a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for the campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance, and the sponsorship of student service-learning projects.

In a letter to the university, Lauren Weyers, program manager for the Arbor Day Foundation, said, "Your entire campus community should be proud of this sustained commitment to environmental stewardship."

Dr. Daniel Heimmermann, chancellor, was very pleased with the news. "This honor recognizes the dedication of Brian Enter and our facilities staff who maintain our beautiful campus," he said.
