Test Scores Optional for Admission

Aiken, SC (09/15/2020) — For students looking to enter college next fall, the University of South Carolina Aiken is making the admissions process just a bit easier.

"To assist students facing unprecedented challenges and disruptions amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of South Carolina Aiken is modifying its standardized test requirement and adopting a 'test-optional' admission policy for first-year and transfer students seeking enrollment beginning in 2021," said Daniel Robb, associate vice chancellor for enrollment management.

Applicants are encouraged to submit scores if possible, but anyone who chooses not to submit them will not be penalized or disadvantaged in the admission process. Choosing not to submit standardized test scores could impact financial aid, however. While standardized test scores are not required for admission, they may be necessary for scholarship programs.

State and institutional scholarships, such as Palmetto Fellows and LIFE, are still tied in part to standardized tests. So, anyone who is interested in applying for a scholarship should plan to take the tests.

"We still encourage prospective students to take the SAT or ACT when possible, as they will continue to play a role in the awarding of the university-based scholarships as well as the South Carolina LIFE, and Palmetto Fellows scholarships," Robb explained.

For all 2021 terms - spring, summer and fall - no SAT or ACT scores will be required for new students applying to UofSC Aiken.

"These are extraordinary times, and we are hopeful that this step will provide clarity to students as they apply to benefit from a nationally ranked USC Aiken education," Robb said.

"We look forward to working with well-prepared, diverse, dedicated, and resilient students who have always been drawn to UofSC Aiken. We have a place for all students seeking an outstanding education in small, personalized environment and will help guide them through the application process."

Students can begin applying starting today, to UofSC Aiken for spring and fall 2021 terms. The application is now live at usca.edu/apply. Prospective students are encouraged to apply early to receive the most immediate admission and scholarship consideration.
