An Evening of One Acts

Aiken, SC (01/28/2022) — The University Theatre Players at the University of South Carolina Aiken (USC Aiken) presents "An Evening of One Acts," February 10 - 12, 7:30 p.m., and February 13, 2 p.m. at the O'Connell Theatre located in the Etherredge Center on the USC Aiken campus. The evening is approximately two hours long and is comprised of two one-act plays with an intermission between the two.

The first show is "Tuesdays with Morrie," by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom, directed by Mary Fran Crook. "Tuesdays with Morrie" is the autobiographical story of Mitch Albom, an accomplished journalist driven solely by his career, and Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor. Newspaper sports columnist Albom recounts the time spent with Schwartz, a 78-year-old sociology professor at Brandeis University, dying from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Albom, a former student of Schwartz, had not corresponded with him since attending his college classes 16 years earlier. The cast includes Andrew Randolph as Mitch Albom and Paul B. Crook as Morrie Schwartz. The crew includes Jacob Daignault, production stage manager; Patrick Grant, assistant stage manager, props master; and James Walsh, run crew.

The second show is "The Actor's Nightmare" by Christopher Durang, directed by Mae Tormala. In "The Actor's Nightmare," main character George wanders on stage and is met by stage manager Meg who says he is to fill in for an actor who has had an accident. George is confused as Ellen Terry, Sarah Siddons, and Henry Irving arrive, all apparently about to perform. But in what? "Private Lives?" "Hamlet?" Or something by Beckett? As each starts playing their respective part, George tries valiantly to follow them but is apparently facing the executioner as Thomas More in "A Man for All Seasons." The cast includes Angelo Gooch as George, Jarden Napier as Meg, Chloe Towne as Sarah, Joseph Costello as Henry, and Vidal Corona Gonzalez as executioner. The crew includes Ashleigh Ponder, production stage manager; Maddie Gallam, assistant stage manager; Jaden Napier, props master; Emma Breaux, set designer; James Walsh, run crew; and Kayla Hutto, master electrician.
