Celebrate Pacer Day with the Class of 2020

Aiken, SC (05/01/2020) — The University of South Carolina Aiken is claiming May 6 as Pacer Day in honor of the members of the Class of 2020.

"Our graduates have worked hard to earn their degrees, and we want to celebrate their accomplishments on Pacer Day," said Mary Driscoll, the vice chancellor for advancement and external affairs who co-chairs the commencement committee at the university.

"While we had to reschedule our spring commencement to Aug. 15, we still want to make May 6 special as that was the original date of the Class of 2020's commencement ceremony."

The university will launch a number of initiatives recognizing the accomplishments of the Class of 2020 on Pacer Day, which will be found at https://www.usca.edu/graduation . The series of virtual events culminates at 6 p.m., with a formal video from USC Aiken's leadership. That is the time the originally ceremony was slated to begin.

"This approach maximizes physical distancing while still honoring our graduates and recognizing their achievements," Driscoll said.

"Hopefully graduates will share unique celebrations with their families and friends, while maintaining physical distancing guidelines and implementing safe practices."

Members of the Class of 2020 and those joining them in their celebrations are asked to tag USC Aiken and use #PACERDAY when posting photos to social media.
