First Exhibit of the Academic Year Features Local Artists
Aiken, SC (08/12/2020) — The University of South Carolina Aiken Etherredge Center Gallery and the Department of Visual and Performing Arts present two exhibits, Aug. 17 - Sept. 25, which showcase the work of local artists.
The exhibits are free and open to the public. Patrons should refer to https://www.usca.edu/etherredge-center for COVID-19 guidelines.
Faces and Figures is an exhibit of portrait paintings by local artist, Andrew Murphy.
"Murphy captures the joy we feel around our friends and family. His brightly colored portrait paintings show the moments we wish we could photograph when enjoying a conversation or experiencing comfort with a loved one," said Katie Kameen, gallery director of the Etherredge Center Galleries.
Painting at a Distance features five local artists whose work speaks about the beauty of creativity and the pain of isolation. Exhibiting artists include Amy Ness, Rich Klein, Marilyn Hartley, Dawn Beckering, and Joya Jiménez DiStefano.
"They seek to bring hope to their audience while sharing their personal experiences of making art at a distance these past months," said Kameen.
