Aiken, SC (03/23/2020) — As people are trying to stay healthy amid current health concerns, a strong immune system is critical. Regular exercise, along with good nutrition and getting enough sleep, can strengthen your immune system, reduce stress, and help you stay fit.
Dr. Brian Parr, associate professor in the department of exercise and sports science at the University of South Carolina Aiken, has insight on how exercise can boost immune systems.

Parr teaches courses in exercise physiology, electrocardiography, clinical exercise physiology, and research methods. He also mentors undergraduate students in exercise science research.
He earned his doctorate in exercise physiology from the University of Tennessee, his master's in exercise science from Central Michigan University, and a Bachelor of Science in biology from Stonehill College.
Parr is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and is an ACSM certified clinical exercise physiologist. His primary research focus is on obesity, exercise, and functional limitations. Other interests include eating and activity behaviors and exercise science pedagogy, including using social media in teaching. His research has led to scientific publications and conference presentations. He is also involved with professional and community organizations including the American College of Sports Medicine, ActivEarth, Exercise is Medicine, and the Family YMCA.
