Oswald Distinguished Writers Series Returns

Aiken, SC (10/04/2021) — The University of South Carolina Aiken (USCA) celebrates the 25th anniversary of its Oswald Distinguished Writer's Series (Oswald Series) on Tuesday, October 26, with a special appearance by guest author Pam Durban. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Etherredge Center on the university campus. Admission is free of cost and open to the public. Masks and social distancing will be required indoors.

Durban will read aloud from her written works and hold a book signing at the event.

Her publications include two collections of short stories, "All Set About with Fever Trees," and "Soon," and three novels, "The Laughing Place," "So Far Back," and "The Tree of Forgetfulness." Her short fiction has been widely anthologized and published in numerous literary journals, including "The Georgia Review," "Tri-Quarterly," "The Southern Review," "Crazyhorse," "Epoch," "The New Virginia Review," and "The Ohio Review," among others. She is the Doris Betts Distinguished Professor of Creative Writing at the University of North Carolina.

Since its inception, the Oswald Series has been dedicated to extending the learning experience beyond the classroom by providing, free of charge, public readings of important contemporary poetry and prose to USCA faculty and students and members of the greater community. Dr. Andrew Geyer, USCA English department chair, currently serves as the series organizer. Dr. Tom Mack, USCA professor emeritus, will serve as master of ceremonies.

There will be an opportunity for members of the media to interview Durban at 5:30 p.m., before the evening's event. Contact Katie Gantt at news@usca.edu or 803-641-3738 for more information.
