System President Visits Aiken

Aiken, SC (10/02/2019) — The president of the University of South Carolina System, Robert Caslen, visited with students, faculty, and staff at USC Aiken just a few short weeks after stepping into the position.

"Your student body is made up of incredibly bright young men and women who want to be part of something bigger than themselves," Caslen said during the visit.

"There is a lot of potential to work together to help each other and most importantly to help and enable the citizens and students of the state of South Carolina and to provide the best scholastic programs for them so they can meet the requirements of today's society and be contributors to their community."

On his first day at the helm in Columbia, Caslen pledged to "serve as a tireless advocate" for students, helping ensure they have the resources, programs and support they need to reach their "full potential in work and in life."

"He has expressed his commitment to our success and has outlined three of his top priorities, which I believe we can all relate to and appreciate: academic excellence, research, and diversity and inclusion," said Q'May Qourters, vice president of the USC Aiken Student Government Association.

Before moving to Columbia, Caslen held several positions in higher education, including as superintendent and president of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and as a senior administrator at the University of Central Florida. The three-star general became the 29th president of the USC System earlier this summer.

"I'm really excited about what's going on here at USC Aiken, and I look forward to partnering with you," he said.
