Third Annual Empowering Healthy Veterans Campaign

Proceeds from the campaign will help to establish the new Veteran and Military Student Academic Scholarship at USCA.

Aiken, SC (10/06/2021) — The Office of Veteran and Military Student Success (VMSS) at the University of South Carolina Aiken (USCA) announces its third annual Empowering Healthy Veterans (EHV) campaign to take place November 1 - 13, 2021. The campaign promotes awareness of the connection between veterans' health and the community's civic health. Proceeds from events will help to establish the new Veteran and Military Student Academic Scholarship at USCA.

The community is invited to participate in the EHV Virtual Run, November 1-13. During the 13 days, participants may complete one or multiple runs in honor of a veteran and share the experience with VMSS via social media. The community is also invited to participate in the EHV in-person run on the USCA campus, November 13 at 8:30 a.m. Register for the 10K Endurance Run, 5K Scenic Campus Run, or a Family Fun Run at strictlyrunning.com.

Run participants and community organizations can purchase a customized course honor sign to recognize loved ones who have served. The signs will be visibly placed on the racecourse.

Join the VMSS team at The Alley Downtown Taproom in Aiken on November 11 for a celebration and swag bag pickup from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Meet VMSS members and mingle with veterans, service members, and their families.

Robert A. Murphy, director of the Office of VMSS, said, "We are champions of veterans, service members, and their families in their educational pursuits as they transition from military service to become vital community members and enter the workforce. We provide nationally recognized education and holistic-transition support, delivering a generation of military veterans who are dependable thinkers and leaders."

This year, once again, USCA earned high praise from Military Times, which ranked them among institutions that are "best for vets." With the 2021 rankings, the university shot up to number 52, placing them alongside the top-tier universities nationally. USCA remains ranked first in South Carolina. USCA has also been named to the 2021-2022 list of Military Friendly Schools, a designation reserved for institutions that have demonstrated a clear commitment to programs that improve the lives of veterans. USCA has been recognized for several years and scored 100 percent in each category for the 2021-2022 cycle.

Corporate sponsors of the EHV campaign include Savannah River Nuclear Solutions and The Alley Downtown Taproom.
