Three USC Aiken Students Receive Magellan Scholar Award
Aiken, SC (04/29/2022) — Three junior special education majors at the University of South Carolina Aiken (USC Aiken) School of Education (SOE) have received the Magellan Scholar Award for 2022-2023.
Adam Taylor Eubanks, Deanna McCord, and Skyla Watson were awarded $7,500 to conduct research in the field of special education. They will use the award money to administer surveys to K-12 teachers and develop professional development related to inclusive practices in special area classrooms (e.g., art, physical education). Their study is titled "Examining the Perceived Self-Efficacy of Inclusive Special Area Teachers in K-12 Classrooms."
The dean of the School of Education, Dr. Judy Beck, noted that Taylor, Deanna, and Skyla, are very deserving of this award. "The impact of this collaborative project will be immediate and long-lasting," she said. "These exceptional teacher candidates should be celebrated for their outstanding accomplishments. We look forward to more great things to come."
Dr. Melissa Martin, Pacer LIFE program director, Special Education program coordinator, and assistant professor in the SOE, and Dr. Timothy Lintner, assistant vice chancellor for academic affairs and secondary social studies program coordinator in the SOE, will mentor these students as they complete their research study.
