UofSC Aiken Announces Volunteer of the Year

Aiken, SC (12/29/2020) — The University of South Carolina Aiken recently selected Von Snelgrove as its 2020 Volunteer of the year. In the award announcement, Vice Chancellor for Advancement and External Affairs Mary Driscoll said, "Von Snelgrove is the kind of volunteer every organization wishes that it had."

For 35 years, Snelgrove has supported UofSC Aiken through contributions to the Etherredge Center for the Performing Arts, the Barry H. Johnson Memorial Scholarship, and various other endowed program funds, the Pacer Development Fund, and the basketball program (both men's and women's). Snelgrove and his wife Vicki established the Snelgrove Family Men's and Women's Endowed Basketball Scholarship Fund in 2017.

In addition to financial support, Snelgrove has served on the athletic advisory board, advising the university's director of athletics.

"Von is a tireless advocate for UofSC Aiken," says Driscoll. "Even in the middle of a national pandemic, Von has continued to successfully raise funds to help establish the strength and conditioning center that will serve over 500 student-athletes and exercise science majors."

Safety concerns over COVID-19 made adequate space imperative, and Driscoll says that Snelgrove "redoubled his efforts" on the university's behalf.
