USC Aiken Professor Elected VP of State's Historical Association

Aiken, SC (03/20/2019) — Members of the South Carolina Historical Association recently elected a University of South Carolina Aiken history professor as its vice president.

Dr. Elizabeth Georgian, an associate professor of history and member of the SCHA board, assumed the position during the organization's annual meeting, held on the USC Aiken campus.

"It's a tremendous honor to be elected, and I look forward to continuing to serve with our wonderful board members and incoming president, Michael Morris," she said.

SCHA facilitates the teaching and understanding of history. History scholars and those interested in the discipline make up the organization.

"The only requirement for membership is an interest in, and a love for, history," according to the SCHA website.

"Current members include students, high school teachers, college professors, librarians, archivists, and history buffs."

Georgian, a graduate of Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y., earned both her master's and doctorate degrees from the University of Delaware. She has taught at USC Aiken for the last seven years. Her research focuses on American religion and South Carolina history. She enjoys teaching courses that include these topics as well as women's history, constitutional history, and the history of illness and medicine.
