USC Awards Pacers Research Grants
Aiken, SC (12/19/2019) — The University of South Carolina Aiken announced its newest Magellan Scholars who will receive funding for their undergraduate research during the spring 2020 semester.
"We are proud of these scholars and look forward to the discoveries they will make with their faculty mentors," said Dr. Chad Leverette, interim dean of the College of Sciences and Engineering.
USC in Columbia awards the grants. Each Magellan Scholar may receive up to $3,000 to offset the costs of the research, scholarly and creative projects they are conducting with their faculty mentors. Students from all disciplines who have earned a 3.3 GPA are eligible to apply for the program.
Spring 2020 Magellan Scholars include:
Brandon Hill, Psychology Major
- Mentor: Dr. Adam Pazda, Department of Psychology
- Increasing Psychological Well-Being through Exposure to Nature in Virtual Reality
Sarah Rebecca Shealy, Biology Major
- Mentor: Dr. Kelly Gibson, Department of Biology and Geology
- Relating Assemblages of Benthic Foraminifera to Sediment Organic Matter Content to Understand Ecosystem Health in the North-Inlet Winyah Bay Estuary
Brittni Hall and Bailey Hamilton, Biology Majors
- Mentor: Dr. MK Mills, Department of Biology and Geology
- Egg Development in Insect Vectors the stable fly, Stomoxys calcitrans, and midge, Culicoides sonorensis
