USCA Assistant Professor Receives Exemplary Service to the Teaching Profession Award

Aiken, SC (10/14/2021) — Dr. Melissa Martin, assistant professor in the School of Education (SOE) at the University of South Carolina Aiken (USCA), received the Exemplary Service to the Teaching Profession Award from the South Carolina Association of Teacher Educators at their annual conference at Columbia College on October 1, 2021.

This award is presented to an individual or group that has unique or extraordinary accomplishments in education, active leadership at the national, state, or local level, and focused attention on the need for improvement and better support of education. Martin has overseen the modification of the special education program, developed the prospectus for the Pacer LIFE program, and established a student chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children at USCA.

"I am so honored to receive this award from the South Carolina Association of Teacher Educators," said Martin. "I am grateful to work at a university that embraces new ideas and programs for both our preservice teachers and community."

Dr. Judy Beck, dean of the SOE said, "Dr. Martin has been a shining star within the SOE. She brings energy, enthusiasm, and passion to everything she does. The SOE is honored to have her as a colleague."
