USCA associate professor wins prestigious award at the 2021 South Carolina Association for the Education of Young Children conference.
Aiken, SC (12/07/2021) — Dr. Sally McClellan, associate professor at the University of South Carolina Aiken (USCA) was the recent recipient of a prestigious award at the 2021 South Carolina Association for the Education of Young Children (SCAEYC) conference.
McClellan won the Marian Wright Edelman Advocacy Award, an award established to honor a person who has made a significant contribution that changes the lives of children in positive ways. She was nominated by her peers.
"I am very honored to receive this award," McClellan said. "Marian Wright Edelman is from South Carolina and started the Children's Defense Fund which has been advocating for young children for many years. I'm also delighted that my advocacy has been recognized by my professional organization, SCAEYC. Advocacy is something I have been working on for a long time, not only as an individual but also with my students."
Dr. Judy Beck, dean of the School of Education at USCA, said the award could not have gone to a more deserving person.
"Dr. McClellan has been a longtime advocate for early childhood education," Beck said. "Her work with the USC Aiken childcare center in becoming one of the only campus-based NAEYC accredited childcare centers shows her passion for quality early childhood education. She shares that passion with our preservice teachers and encourages them to advocate for their students, themselves as early childhood educators, and the profession as a whole. The School of Education is very fortunate to have Dr. McClellan on our team."
