Pacers Win First Dressage Show
Aiken, SC (10/11/2019) — Members of the newly formed dressage team at the University of South Carolina Aiken competed in their first Intercollegiate Dressage Association event at Wake Forest University recently and came home as best in show.
"We were all shocked when our team won," said Marissa Collins, advisor for the dressage team.
"It was a huge accomplishment to win our first show. We are looking forward to the next one."
The Pacers partnered with fellow riders from Averett University in Danville, Va., to comprise a team. The foursome took on several others teams from regional institutions who also competed in the event at Hidden K Stables, the home stable for Wake Forest. In addition to USC Aiken, other schools who took part in the dressage show included North Carolina State and St. Andrews in Laurinburg, NC.
"This was our first show, and we really didn't know what to expect going in," Collins said.
"Many of the other coaches were very helpful in finding our way and helping us with the schedule and rules."
USC Aiken dressage riders were:
- Bailey Hamilton, a junior biology major from Grovetown, Ga., who placed 4th in her upper training test and 3rd in upper training Dressage Seat Equitation
- Jessica Wymbs, a senior business major from San Jose, Calif., who placed 1st in her lower training test and 4th in lower training Dressage Seat Equitation
Out of all the riders taking part in the Wake event, Wymbs earned the reserve high score of the day.
