25 First Year Students Inducted to Honor Society

Aiken, SC (11/16/2021) — The University of South Carolina Aiken (USCA) inducted 25 new members to its Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) chapter on Thursday, November 11.

ALD is a certified national honor society that recognizes academic excellence in the first year at a college or university. Members not only celebrated their academic success, but are now eligible for national scholarships and fellowships, programs to develop their leadership skills, and resources to help define the path to their career.

The USCA chapter of ALD was installed last year under the direction of founding chapter advisors Jason Munsell, associate professor of communication and emerging media, and Christian Medders, former assistant director of student life.

Rachel Whitten, assistant professor of communication and emerging media, now serves as faculty advisor for the organization.

"The first year of college is often difficult for students as they transition into the college environment," Whitten said. "Being eligible for induction into ALD is a huge honor and one that demonstrates student excellence early on in their academic endeavors."

Student, Gabby Nagorite, is the elected chapter president for ALD at USCA. She echoed Whitten's sentiments. "Being inducted into ALD is an honor and an accomplishment that shows you were one of the hardworking and studious students within your class. And that to me sounds like the right path to jumpstart the rest of your undergraduate career."

According to its website, Alpha Lambda Delta's mission is to "encourage superior academic achievement, to promote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning, and to assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their unique roles in society."
