Community Foundation Helps Underwrite USC Aiken's New Grand Piano

Aiken, SC (02/06/2018) — The University of South Carolina Aiken received a sizeable grant from the Community Foundation for the Central Savannah River Area, which was used to purchase a brand new Steinway 9-foot concert grand piano for the Etherredge Center Main Stage.

The timely $12,750 grant helped make the piano's debut during the recent annual Winter Nocturne concert possible. This generous contribution from the Community Foundation also aids the university in its goal of earning a coveted distinction: All-Steinway School.

"This new Steinway is also the first step in USC Aiken becoming the first school in our region to be classified as an All-Steinway School," said Judith Goodwin of the USC Aiken Advancement Office.

"By becoming an All-Steinway School, the university will join an elite group of few universities around the country. Currently there are only two schools in South Carolina classified as All-Steinway Schools, and both are private universities."

USC Aiken hopes to be the first in the state system to achieve this categorization. Goodwin says the distinction will also enhance USC Aiken's ability to recruit talented students and faculty - and continue to provide the CSRA world-class entertainment.
