Foreign Films Featured During International Film Festival at USC Aiken

Aiken, SC (02/14/2018) — The University of South Carolina Aiken presents the 2018 International Film Festival Feb. 13 - March 1.

"I think the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures has presented the International Film Festival for approximately 20 years, if not more," Dr. Timothy Ashton, director of the festival.

"We are thrilled to provide exposure to these thought-provoking films year after year -- not only to our campus community but to the general public as well."

This year's event features three international films, presented at the university free of charge.

Land of Mine will be shown Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m., in Penland 106. Martin Zandvliet directed this World War II-era production set in Denmark.

Frantz, directed by Francois Ozon, takes place in Germany at the end of World War I. Audiences can view it Feb. 20 and Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m., in Penland 106.

The Sea Inside, directed by Alejandro Abenabar, is a true story of a dying Spaniard who inspired others. It will be shown in Penland 106, Feb. 27-March 1, at 6:30 p.m.

"We've selected three powerful films this year. Each one should leave a strong impression on the audience," Ashton said.

All films will be screened in their original languages with English subtitles. There will also be a brief faculty-led discussion before and after each film. Pre-screening discussions begin 30 minutes before the films are shown.

Each film contains adult themes and is intended for mature audiences. All films are either Not Rated or Rated R.

All events associated with the USC Aiken International Film Festival are free and open to the public.
