USC Aiken
January/February Students of the Month
Aiken, SC (03/01/2022) — Aiken Sunrise Rotary Club has named University of South Carolina Aiken (USC Aiken) student Paige Randall Singer as their February 2022 Student of the Month. Singer is a senior majoring in creative writing and literature.
Originally from South Salem, New York, Singer has maintained a 3.9-grade point average throughout her time as an undergraduate. After graduating from USC Aiken, she plans to obtain her master of fine arts degree in creative writing and a doctorate in English. Her ultimate professional goals are to teach at the college level and write books.
Singer is editor-in-chief of "Broken Ink," the university's literary publication, opinions editor for "Pacer Times," the university's student-run newspaper, and CPC Delegate of Phi Mu. She chose to attend USC Aiken due to the campus' location. "I had moved to the Aiken area a few years before enrolling," she said.
David Wilson Steinmeyer Jr. was the January Student of the Month. He is a senior double majoring in political science and sociology.
Originally from Hampton, South Carolina, Steinmeyer has maintained a 4.0-grade point average throughout his time as an undergraduate. After graduating from USC Aiken, he plans to obtain his Juris Doctor and a master's degree in criminology and criminal justice in order to become a criminal defense attorney. Steinmeyer is very involved in extracurricular activities at USC Aiken. He serves as an Honors Ambassador, Chancellor's Ambassador, and the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity vice president. He has previously served in other roles and organizations on campus, such as the Student Government Association (treasurer and NSAC), Resident Student Association (chairman), and Pacer Commons Community Council (president).
He chose to attend USC Aiken because of the personal atmosphere the campus grants students. "As a student originally attending another, much larger, university, I was fortunate enough to be able to visit USC Aiken through friends attending the university. As I began to visit campus more often through these friends, I fell in love with USC Aiken's 'small town' or 'small university' feel. Over time, I decided to transfer from the bigger university to USC Aiken as its more personable atmosphere reminded me of all the things I love about my hometown of Hampton."
