Juniors Get Preview of Life on Campus

Aiken, SC (03/30/2018) — Approximately 1,000 11th graders from across Aiken County visited the University of South Carolina Aiken during Junior Preview Day.

The Office of Admissions and Division of Enrollment Management collaborated with the Aiken County Public School District to host the second JPD.

"This is an exciting opportunity to expose 11th graders to the college search process and show off all the wonderful people, places, education, and activities at USC Aiken," said Daniel Robb, associate vice chancellor for enrollment management.

While on campus, the prospective Pacers toured USC Aiken. They visited the apartments in the housing complex, stopped by the Learning Commons in the Gregg-Graniteville Library, and made a trip to the Student Activities Center where Starbucks is located.

Along the route, current USC Aiken students met with the future Pacers, sharing their experiences and giving them insight on what the 11th graders can look forward to once they are enrolled at USC Aiken.

"The admissions office, with help from many offices and departments on campus, guided students on more than 30 simultaneous tours," Robb said.

"This is no small feat, and it is only possible because of the wonderful spirit of voluntarism displayed by many people on campus."

After the campus tour, the juniors gathered in front of the USC Aiken Convocation Center where they got to know more about the student organizations on campus in a festive, fair-type setting. During several cornhole games, members of some of the organizations were on hand to introduce the guests to myriad opportunities to get involved.

"This event helped kick off the college search process and also showcased USC Aiken, the university ranked as the #1 Public College in the South for 2018 by U.S. News and World Report," said Robb.

If the visiting high schoolers applied to USC Aiken within the first 36 hours of their visit, the admissions office waived the application fee.
