Lexington Native Chosen as Student of the Month
Aiken, SC (09/07/2018) — Aiken's Sunrise Rotary has selected University of South Carolina Aiken Senior Kimberly Jergenson, a native of Lexington, S.C., as its Student of the Month for September.
This communication and political science major plans to go to law school after graduation in May.
"Although I am unsure what they future holds, I have developed a passion for law throughout my undergrad courses. I hope to attend law school and gain work experience that will help me to determine the right area of law for me," she said.
In addition to maintaining a GPA that has earned her scholarships and spots on the Dean's and President's Lists and the Peach Belt Conference Honor Roll, Jergenson has been quite active all over campus.
Originally, she came to USC Aiken to play soccer.
"Once my soccer career came to an end, I jumped right into being involved on campus. I had formed such a great relationship with the faculty and staff that I had multiple opportunities to get involved," the student-athlete said.
She stays busy with academics and a plethora of student organizations. She serves as a coordinator for special projects, in the Student Life Office; as a Chancellor Ambassador; vice president of Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communication Honor Society; on the University Judicial Board; as the academic achievement chairman for Zeta Tau Alpha, Kappa Pi; and as vice president of judicial matters for the National Panhellenic Council. Additionally, Jergenson is a Pacer Fanatics student coordinator and a team leader for orientation.
"In each organization I joined, I had such great experiences and formed many close friendships. The entire campus quickly became my family," the River Bluff High School grad said.
"This feeling of being at home only reassured me that I had made the right decision in attending USC Aiken."
Off campus, she enjoys any outdoor activity such as hiking, kayaking and paddle boarding. The travel buff claims her favorite adventure was skydiving with her best friend in Hawaii. When not exploring other locales, she takes advantage of every opportunity to "hang out" with friends or participate in artistic activities.
She credits the university for making an impact in her life - not just academically but personally as well.
"I originally chose USC Aiken because I was given the opportunity to play soccer here," Jergenson said.
