Living History Brings Key Figures to Life

Aiken, SC (02/12/2020) — Students at the University of South Carolina Aiken are presenting a living history museum, Feb. 26, from 5-6 p.m., in the lobby of the Student Activities Center, as part of Black History Month.

While the event is free and open to the public, attendees are asked to bring canned goods or donations which will be given to a local food bank.

"It will be a fun different way to learn about the individuals who impacted Black history," said Olivia Burley, a member of CURLS, the organization on campus organizing it.

Some of the individuals who will be featured as part of this living history museum are Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, President Barack Obama, and Aretha Franklin.

"I hope that those who attend and participate will learn about someone new," Burley said.

CURLS is one of almost 100 student organizations at the University of South Carolina Aiken. The acronym stands for Confident Unique Regal Leading Society.

"Our focus is promoting the acceptance and appreciation of natural hair as well as building a strong community through service projects," Burley said.

"We aim to boost and encourage the African American students on campus by hosting educational events about healthy hair care as well as events about self-love and financial awareness."
