Pacer from Columbia Named Student of the Month
Aiken, SC (03/24/2019) — The Sunrise Rotary Club of Aiken named Cheyenne Alibocas its Student of the Month for March.
The sociology major is concentrating in human services and is minoring in psychology. While only a junior, she's mapped out her course after graduation from the University of South Carolina Aiken. Alibocas hopes to earn her master's in child life from the College of Charleston as part of her plan to become a child life specialist.
While she maintains a strong academic standing and was recently inducted into the Pi Gamma Mu Honor Society, Alibocas is active in student organizations all over campus. Currently, she serves as a resident mentor in the university's housing complex, specifically assisting freshmen as they settle into college life. She's also a member of Baptist Collegiate Ministries and the USC Aiken Tennis club.
The opportunity to get involved in myriad student organizations is just one reason she chose to become a Pacer.
"I chose USCA because of the small school environment," Alibocas said.
"By this I mean, I love the small class sizes and that all of the buildings are in short walking distance of each other. With the class sizes being smaller, lecture to me is more personal and you get to have a relationship with the teachers and other students in the classes.
"I fell in love with the campus when I first toured the school. The campus is safer than other campuses as well, and that was another big reason I chose here.
"I also thought that tuition was quite reasonable than other schools I applied to."
Outside of school, Alibocas enjoys spending time with friends and family.
"Along with that I like writing poetry, listening to music, playing different kinds of games, finding new creative things to make or design, cooking, baking, playing tennis and traveling, even though this is hard because of work schedules outside of school," the Harry Potter and Scooby Doo fan said.
