Political Science Major Tapped for Student of the Month

Aiken, SC (09/20/2019) — Aiken's Sunrise Rotary Club selected Mason Spires, a senior majoring in political science, as its Student of the Month for September.

Ultimately, the Augusta native plans to enter politics -- after graduating with a master's degree in public administration.

To help get ready for life in the public arena, Spires has already taken on leadership roles at the University of South Carolina Aiken. Currently, he is the president of Delta Sigma Pi. He is also an active member of Pacer Fanatics, an organization charged with boosting school spirit. Of course, Spires is a member of the USC Aiken Political Science Club. In addition, this former vice president of the Student Government Association, also served as a leader for orientation for two years.

Along with the Sunrise Rotary, the university has also recognized the budding politician. Spires earned the New Student Leader Award, and the USC Aiken Alumni Association awarded him a Student Involvement Scholarship.

In his "spare time," Spires indulges in his other passions, including baseball, creative writing and community service.
