Public Invited to Free Art Reception Aug. 9

Aiken, SC (08/02/2019) — The public is invited to attend the closing reception of the "Friday Morning Plein Air Artists" exhibition, on Aug. 9, in the University of South Carolina Aiken Etherredge Center Gallery, from 5 - 7 p.m.

The current exhibit features works from the Friday Morning Plein Air Art Group. Local artists include Lou Davis, Andrew Murphy, Larry Bartels, Al Beyer, Bill Daniel, Sally Donovan, and Eva Adams. The exhibition includes more than 80 paintings of Aiken scenes, which the artists painted throughout the last year.

"Painting 'en plein air,' which is French for 'in the open air,' forces the artists to observe and react to their surroundings as they capture the particularities of a specific time and place," said Gallery Director Katie Kameen.

"It is exciting and eye-opening to see such a wide array of representations of local Aiken scenery."

Refreshments will be served, and guests will have the chance to meet the artists during the reception on Aug. 9, from 5 - 7 p.m., in the Etherredge Center Gallery. This event is free and open to the public.
