Seasonal Favorite Shown in USC Aiken's DuPont Planetarium

Aiken, SC (12/14/2018) — For a limited time only, the DuPont Planetarium in the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center, on the campus of the University of South Carolina Aiken, is showing Mystery of the Christmas Star.

While viewing this show, audiences of all ages will journey back more than 2,000 years, trying to discover a scientific explanation for the star that led the wise men to Bethlehem.

"You will see incredible images of supernovae, comets, planetary conjunctions, and other celestial phenomena," said Dr. Gary Senn, executive director of the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center.

Mystery of the Christmas Star, which won five Telly Awards, is only shown in the DuPont Planetarium Saturday evenings throughout December. Presentations take place Dec. 15, 18, 22 and 29, at 6, 7, and 8 p.m.

"This is a longstanding favorite and is sure to charm and captivate audiences," Senn said.

He and the Ruth Patrick team recently upgrading the planetarium projection system to a Digistar 6, which enhances the audience members' experiences, providing "total dome" viewing.
