Senior Sociology Students Present Research at Carolina Undergraduate Social Science Symposium
Senior Shovonne' Favor wins second place for research on race discrimination in the workplace
Aiken, SC (04/25/2023) — Dr. Melencia Johnson, associate professor of sociology at the University of South Carolina Aiken, escorted senior sociology majors Shevonne' Favor and Chasity Mitchell to the Carolina Undergraduate Social Science Symposium at Lander University on Friday, April 21, which included participation of approximately 40 students enrolled in North Carolina and South Carolina institutions.
Favor and Mitchell submitted a paper and presented their research for the juried competition. Favor's research, titled, "Feelings of Being Discriminated Against at Work Because of Race: Intersections of race, age and sex," was awarded second place in both the paper competition and presentation competition.
This is the second year in a row that University of South Carolina Aiken students have taken home competition honors.
