Student Leaders Mean the World to Children
Aiken, SC (03/19/2019) — Student leaders from the University of South Carolina Aiken traveled to Orlando, Fla., for spring break, but they spent their time there goofing off - in a therapeutic way.
"Our leadership class has had the privilege of volunteering at Give Kids The World," said Ashley DeFore, an early childhood education major.
"Give Kids The World is a volunteer-based resort that allows children who are critically ill and their families to get away, to have fun, and to be able to forget about the real world; even if it's just for a brief moment.
"Our class has been given the chance to help run some of the attractions at Give Kids The World, and it has been a blast."
This semester, 15 USC Aiken students participated in the alternative spring break. These trips are offered through the university in the spring and fall. Volunteers who participate conduct community outreach projects in the locations they visit. During other breaks, student-leaders have traveled to New Orleans, Tampa, Fla., Asheville, N.C., Washington, and Miami.
