Sunrise Rotary Names USC Aiken Junior Student of the Month

Aiken, SC (03/15/2018) — Aiken Sunrise Rotary named a University of South Carolina Aiken junior psychology major Student of the Month for March.

Collytte Cederstrom says when choosing where she'd go to college, she found just want she was looking for in Aiken.

"I picked USC Aiken because of the family atmosphere that I felt my very first visit. I wanted a small school and small class sizes but also a home away from home, and that is exactly what I found."

She says the academic program was the right fit too.

"I loved the psychology program and knew they would steer me in the right direction," Cederstrom said.

The Indian, S.C., native hopes to earn her master's degree in clinical psychology and work in a psychiatric hospital someday.

Until then, she's active on campus. Currently, she is the director of the Reading Orienteering Club. In this position, she works with area students who are struggling in reading, writing and spelling.

The frequent traveler participated in a recent leadership exchange program to India and has visited Haiti in the past. She serves as a tour guide for visiting prospective Pacers and their families and is the president of Alpha Omicron Pi, one of the Greek sororities on campus.

Cederstrom has also been part of the USC Aiken orientation program, serving as a Pacesetter. In this role, she introduced incoming freshmen and transfer students the university. She also works closely with the administration as a Chancellor Ambassador.

In addition to extracurricular activities, Cederstrom has been involved in a variety of academic endeavors. She earned a Magellan scholarship for her undergraduate research and has presented some of her work at the American Psychological Association Convention for the last three years.

Outside the classroom, her interests include "being outside and doing anything involving water." She says she also "loves" concerts and trying new food.

"I think my number one interest is traveling to new places," Cederstrom said.
