UofSC Aiken Professor Emeritus Publishes Guide to Augusta

Aiken, SC (09/27/2021) — Dr. Thomas Mack, University of South Carolina Aiken (UofSC Aiken) distinguished professor emeritus, wrote the recently published book, "100 Things to Do in Augusta Georgia Before You Die." The book lists top ways to connect with the city and nearby surroundings through unique and exciting activities.

According to the book's description:

"Get insider tips on where to dine and how to make the most of your restaurant experiences. Augusta offers some of the best in Southern cuisine, often with an inventive twist. Discover the most vibrant entertainment venues, from intimate nights spots to major concert halls and the most distinctive shops, from intimate boutiques to one of the largest jewelers in the country. Explore the city's recreational opportunities on land and on the water. Spend the day at a state-of-the-art minor league ballpark or go kayaking on both river and canal. Dig into Augusta's remarkable past, from the American Revolution and through the Civil War to the high-tech era, and learn more about its singular personalities: a hero of the Titanic, the twenty-eighth President, a blind blues artist, a legendary comedy duo, the "Godfather of Soul," and an international diva.

Dr. Mack joined the faculty of UofSC Aiken in 1976 and served as department chair from 1990 - 2015. During his time as a faculty member, he co-founded The Oswald Review, a national undergraduate journal of criticism and research in the discipline of English. A specialist in American literature, Dr. Mack has written extensively on American writers and presented numerous conference presentations on various aspects of American literacy history. He also pens the Aiken Standard's weekly "Arts and Humanities" column.
