USC Aiken Celebrates PBC E-Sports Champs

Aiken, SC (04/26/2019) — The student body at the University of South Carolina Aiken gathered in the middle of campus to celebrate its e-sports team, which recently won the Peach Belt Conference's League of Legends Championship.

USC Aiken's E-sports Team won its first Peach Belt Conference League of Legends Championship, with a 3-0 victory over Columbus State.

"We are extremely proud of this program, which is only in its second year - but is making a name for itself and for USC Aiken," said Dr. Sandra Jordan, chancellor.

"Like all athletes, these students juggle their class schedules with their practices and competitive contests. While they make it look extremely easy, this is a unique sport that requires lots of practice, focus, strategy, and teamwork."

The Pacers, seeded #1 in the tournament, took the title and, along with CSU, advanced to the College League of Legends national playoffs.

"During their season, they practice regularly and compete in intense gaming matches," Jordan said.

"Their hard work paid off; they dominated the Peach Belt all season long."

In the post-season, the Pacers went up against much larger schools with more mature programs.

"Next year, we plan to build on this year's success and take nationals by storm," the chancellor said.

"As the USC Aiken e-sports program grows, we hope more Pacers will join the team."

Members of the team included:

  • Samuel Boyd, whose gamertag is Winggor
  • Cameron Payne, whose gamertag is Wramus
  • Tyrus Carlton, team captain, whose gamertag Saki
  • Brandon Nesbitt, whose gamertag is Ringspider
  • Mackenize Morris, whose gamertag is McKenize
