USC Aiken Crowns Homecoming King, Queen

Aiken, SC (02/13/2019) — During the men's basketball team's homecoming game, the University of South Carolina Aiken announced the 2019 homecoming king and queen.

A member of the women's basketball team was crowned queen. Sade' Johnson, captain of the team, is an active member of her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The industrial process engineering major was escorted by her nephew, Omari Johnson.

Homecoming king, Trey Williams was escorted by his mother, Ruby Williams. He is a biology major with a pre-med focus. Both the Resident Student Association and the USC Aiken Student Government Association sponsored Williams. Currently, Williams serves as the president of the RSA and serves as the resident life senator for SGA. In addition to attending classes full time, Williams works in the student life office.

They were crowned by the 2018 Homecoming Queen and King Aubry Melvin and Mason Spires.

This year, the USC Aiken Homecoming Court was selected through a two-part process. Students could apply to become homecoming king or queen, and a committee made up of the members of the USC Aiken Alumni Council selected the finalists to serve on the court. Members of the student body then voted throughout homecoming week for their choice for the university's royal positions.

Homecoming queen:

Victoria Riddle was escorted by her dad, Tim. Zeta Tau Alpha and SGA sponsored her. The nursing major is active in Zeta and serves as an orientation team leader. Riddle also works in the student life office.

Alpha Omicron Phi sponsored Catherine Pullan, an elementary education major. She is currently the recruitment chairman for AOPi and serves as both a pacesetter and a teaching fellow. Her dad, Thomas Pullan, was her homecoming escort.

Alaine Sullivan, who was escorted by A.J. Smalls, a fellow Pacer. She is a business administration major who was sponsored by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. Sullivan is a member of GLOBE, Pacer Times and is very active in community service projects.

Brooke Thomas' dad, David, escorted her onto the basketball court. The business management major is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, her sponsor organization. She is a member of the USC Aiken cheerleading team and volunteered to coach the Aiken Tigers' cheerleaders. Thomas was recently named Aiken Entrepreneur of the Week.

Homecoming king:

Xavier Dixon, a nursing major, was sponsored by SGA and escorted by Shekinah Hampton, a USC Aiken friend. He is the School of Nursing senator for SGA, serves as a summer camp counselor and is involved in myriad community service projects.

Tucker Rayfield, an industrial process engineering major, was sponsored by his fraternity, Lambda Chi Alpha. In addition to being an active member of that organization, he serves as vice president for public relations for the university's inter-fraternity council. Fellow Pacer, Kaelen Goodayle-Hetzler, was Rayfield's homecoming escort.

Tyler Rembowski, an exercise and sports science major, was sponsored by Delta Sigma Phi. He is the treasurer for both the fraternity and the Neuroscience Club. He is a pacemaker for Pacer Fanatics. Rembowski was escorted by Ali Bell, a fellow USC Aiken student.

Marin Sanders, an English major, was escorted by Hallie Anderson, a friend from campus. He was sponsored by Lambda Chi Alpha. In addition to being an active member in his fraternity, Sanders volunteers in Newspring Church and as a football coach for South Aiken High School.

Throughout the festive week, USC Aiken celebrated decades of accomplishments. Current students, faculty, staff and alumni joined in various homecoming events.

"It has been an amazing week with many great events and competitions," said Christian Medders, assistant director of student life.

"This year's homecoming week has been one of the most successful ever. With several events, terrific attendance, and new structures, the week has been extremely successful. On behalf of the Office of Student Life, we would like to thank everyone who came out and participated throughout the week in several competitions.
