USC Aiken Explores Gregg-Graniteville Legacy
Aiken, SC (03/13/2019) — The University of South Carolina Aiken presents "USC Aiken: A Gregg-Graniteville Legacy," March 21, at 6 p.m., in the Learning Commons area in the Gregg-Graniteville Library.
The event is free and open to the public.
Professor Alexia Helsley will present a short lecture, highlighting how, when and where the university intersects with and connects to the Graniteville Manufacturing Company and Foundation.
Additionally, as part of the program, Professor Deborah Tritt Harmon will curate an exhibit that focuses on the Graniteville Manufacturing Company, the beginnings of USC Aiken at Banksia and other points of intersection highlighted in Lost History of Aiken County, written by Helsley.
The university has several Gregg-related artifacts in its archives, including a quilt made by Marina Gregg, wife of the renowned textile manufacturing magnate. The collection includes other items related to the family and Graniteville Manufacturing Company, including recently acquired pieces of china.
