USC Aiken's Bass Fishing Team Spends Time with Elders

Aiken, SC (09/19/2018) — The University of South Carolina Aiken's newly established bass fishing team kicked off the semester with a special event as part of National Assisted Living Week.

USC Aiken Anglers spent a day with residents of several local assisted living communities, fishing on a privately owned pond in Saluda, S.C., which was available to the group just for this event.

The community service project was the brainchild of Robby Bowles of Pathway Hospice Cares. Bowles arranged for residents from Benton House of Aiken, The Village of Woodside, Hitchcock Place of Aiken, Brookdale of North Augusta, Saluda Nursing Center and Pathway Hospice to take part in the unique outing.

It was a "fun-filled day of fishing and fellowship," he said.

This was the collegiate fishing team's first opportunity to participate in National Assisted Living Week activities.

"We will be helping in this event every year and hope this project is one of many in the future we can volunteer for, providing more opportunities for our students to serve their community while bringing notoriety to the anglers club and USC Aiken," said Jeff Gattis, team coach.
