USCA Professor Wins $150,000 Grant

Funding will go toward substance use prevention workshops for USCA students and young adults in Aiken County, both in-person and online.

Aiken, SC (10/08/2021) — Dr. Mary Moussa Rogers, assistant professor of psychology at the University of South Carolina Aiken (USCA), is the recent recipient of a three-year grant totaling $150,000.

The grant program is "Primary Prevention Strategies for South Carolina Colleges and Universities." Funding will go toward substance use prevention workshops for USCA students and young adults in Aiken County, both in-person and online.

Along with two graduate assistants, Rogers will collect pre-and post-workshop data on substance use, mental health, and coping skills. Funds will also be used to purchase an online personalized feedback program the USCA Student Counseling Center will use in student substance abuse intervention efforts.

"I'm excited to help provide these much-needed services on campus," Rogers said. "I am hopeful that this is the beginning of much more support to come for the well-being of students at USCA and the community."
