World-Class Violinist Tutors Young Musicians
Aiken, SC (04/24/2018) — While on the University of South Carolina Aiken campus for a concert, Maestro Matteo Fedeli, from Italy, conducted a master class for violin students in the area.
The budding violinists played a piece for Fedeli who then provided individualized feedback.
After the customized tutoring sessions, Fedeli shared about the rare 1709 Pietro Guarneri violin he was playing and talked in detail about an historic violin project, sponsored by the Italian government. The project allows him to borrow rare and valuable violins from a museum and perform on them.
"This was a marvelous opportunity for the students to be taught by a world-class violinist and also see and hear him play this extraordinary violin up close," said Dr. Mark Hollingsworth, dean of the USC Aiken College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
"After his discussion of his project, the students and the maestro settled into informal conversations.
"He was very interested in how long the students had been playing and what they hoped to accomplish in the future."
Those students who participated in the master class included:
Austin Bowers, USC Aiken sophomore music major, viola, performed the Minuets from the Cello Suite No. 1 by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Sara Carr, homeschooled high school junior from Augusta, violin, performed the Meditation from "Thais" by Jules Massenet.
Eliza King, homeschool 6th grader from Augusta, violin, performed the Country Dance by Carl Maria von Weber.
Sophie King, homeschooled high school senior from Augusta, violin, performed the Gavotte by Jean Phillipe Rameau.
